Although many bitches are ready for mating on days 12 14 this is not always the case, missed pregnancies or few puppies may occur if the timing is wrong. Another 6 months or more wait for the next heat cycle may then be necessary.
Ovulation test sticks will give you a positive result with ovulation occurring within the next day or two so mating can then be arranged.
Tests are best carried out every day from day 6 or 7 and as soon as you see the colour change you know its time.

The photo is of our Whippet, 7 weeks pregnant. We had to travel up to the north of the country so our dates were vital. We took her two days after the test showed a positive result. If we had not used the test we would have missed her receptive days as she showed no visable signs of being ready to mate.
